Teacher Consultant Group, Inc Appeal @ St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, Georgia
Good morning, Family,
I am Anastasia Simmonds Caphart, a long-time Parishioner at St. Matthew Parish. I am thankful to be here today as founder/Executive Director of Teacher Consultant Group, Inc., to share our work and to make a special appeal for school supplies for the Liberian Children.
I bring you greetings on behalf of Teacher Consultant Group, Inc., a Georgia-based 501 ( c ) (3) nonprofit corporation established in 2009, by Liberian teachers who relocated to the United States to escape the ravages of the Liberian Civil War.
TCG aims at helping to rehabilitate the Liberian Educational System with a special focus on enhancing Early Childhood Education through special projects including but not limited to professional development, the establishment of resource centers, literacy programs, and securing and providing educational materials.
Here in the United States, we offer The Writer’s Workshop and STEAM classes bi-weekly on Saturdays for children from preschool to third grade, along with providing tutorials as needed.
But let me share with you why our calling is so urgent. In Gbarpolu County, only 2% of girls graduate high school. Think about that for a moment. Look at your daughters, granddaughters, goddaughters, or the little girl sitting next to you. Imagine her in a situation where education is nearly impossible. Does it not break your heart? Our solution is ambitious yet achievable: we are building a school for girls on 150 acres of land generously donated to TCG by the local people. Together, we can rewrite this narrative.
We are immensely grateful to St. Matthew Parish for your partnership in this mission. Your donations have enabled us to secure books, furniture, bulletin boards, uniforms, and learning tools for children in Gbarpolu and Montserrado Counties in Liberia.
As we approach the new school year, children in Liberia are also preparing. I am here to ask for your help. Your donation of backpacks, crayons, markers, manual pencil sharpeners, composition notebooks, dry-erase markers, personal dry-erase boards, and other school supplies can make an incredible difference. It can mean uninterrupted learning for a child eager to succeed. Please pick up a flyer in the Narthex for the full list of needed items.
Besieh, Gracias, Thank you!

St. Teresa's Convent Class Of '78 Sponsored Teacher Training Workshop
St. Teresa’s Class of 78 (Visionary Project) recently sponsored a four-day teacher training workshop aimed at improving instruction and building capacity for teachers at St. Teresa’s Convent. The workshop was organized by The Teacher Consultant Group; US based nonprofit organization headed by Anastasia Simmonds Caphart. Facilitators of the workshop included professionals from the Ministry of Education, W.V.S.T. Teacher College, Marist Brother and Catholic Education Secretariat.
On day one of the workshop a panel discussion was held between facilitators and participants. The topic “The Liberian Educational System… Where we are? (Present)…Where do we want to go? (Future) and “How do we get there? (Means)” generated a spirited and educational discussion among the panelists.
The consensus is that teacher training is pivotal to building a viable educational system anywhere, especially in postwar Liberia. Training workshops for teachers such as this will help improve instruction and empower children to learn and grow.
Days 2-4 of the workshop covered essential areas including reading, methodology, classroom management, assessment, guidance, counseling and teaching ethics. Teachers in the primary grades engaged in hands-on activities that included room arrangement and creating print rich environment for the kindergarten classes.
Educational materials and equipment were donated to STC by Class of ’78, and one kindergarten class benefited from a facelift. Arm chairs were replaced with chairs and new tables were provided. Children can now sit at tables to interact with their classmates. Thanks to Wadei Powell who assisted in this venture.
Principal Gray expressed gratitude for successful implementation of the 4-day Teacher Workshop which according to her was aimed at improving the human resource development quality of teachers at STC. She further stated “It is our prayer that this will be an annual activity that will gradually include other sister schools for the betterment of the Liberian Education School System.
The workshop was extended to the Bertha Porte Center where teachers and students of the Bertha Porte Adult Literacy Program were observed, followed by a one-day Literacy Refresher Workshop, with 35 teachers of ALFALIT in Upper Paynesville.
The Teacher Consultant Group is grateful to our premier sponsor, STC Class of ’78. Our major sponsors included, Dr. & Mrs. Celsius Ebba, Mr. Sam Williams II, Mr. & Mrs. Victor Abraham, Dr. Henrique Scott, Rev. Glen Mason (Carver International Missions, USA), Mr. & Mrs. Martin Scott, Mr. Henry Clements, Mr. & Mrs. Emmanuel Smith, Mrs. Beverly Burrowes, Ms. Roynelle Murray, Mr. JE Benjamin & Mr. Mickey Mensah. We also acknowledge the contributions of our facilitators including Ms. Mamawah Sherif and the Albert Porte Memorial Library. Because of your generosity and commitment to our children, we impact teaching and learning in Liberia. May the good Lord continue to bless the work of your hands.
